ASTi Receives Award to Integrate SERA onto Military OFT Simulators

2020/11/17

Advanced Simulation Technology inc. (ASTi) has received a contract to integrate its Simulated Environment for Realistic ATC (SERA) product into five military Operational Flight Trainer (OFT) simulators. These simulators also use ASTi's Telestra system for sound and communication. SERA's integration with Telestra is simple and seamless, providing the flight deck crew with a fully immersive radio environment.

SERA provides realistic air traffic control (ATC) and other traffic radio communications, teaching students to handle busy airspaces and interact with ATC. Instructors can choose and run training scenarios via SERA's intuitive control pages. As a result, they no longer need to role-play ATC and can focus on training during each session. SERA enhances any flight training device, bringing a level of immersion and crew task-loading previously unavailable.

SERA's controller-pilot data link communications (CPDLC) feature will also train the aircraft crew how to send and receive data messages to and from ATC. As part of this contract, ASTi engineers will further expand CPDLC capabilities, allowing SERA to directly communicate with the aircraft flight management system via the ARINC 429 data bus.

SERA fully complies with the latest industry requirements for Simulated ATC Environment (SATCE) solutions. These requirements include the "Manual of Criteria for the Qualification of Flight Simulation Training Devices" (ICAO Doc. 9625, Ed. 4) and updated ARINC Specification 439B, "Simulated Air Traffic Control Environments in Flight Simulation Training Devices." This award further confirms SERA as a leading SATCE solution in the flight simulation marketplace. ASTi looks forward to bringing this innovative training technology into daily operation.
